Golden Hour… I could go on and on about how awesome it is! There are just so many adjectives to describe it! Stunning, breath-taking, extraordinary, and remarkable are just a few of the words that can describe the photos that are taken during this time. It is a term that you hear photographers mention a lot.  In case you are not familiar with it, it is referred to as the hour before sunset. It gets its name because it creates that golden light which is just perfect for photos. It is also the most desired time to be photographed. This is personally my favorite time of the day whether I am shooting or just observing. It is pretty spectacular to witness the sky getting ready for the sun to set.  It creates such a warm feeling to the photos that are like no other! This is also one of my favorite times to photograph couples, especially on their wedding day.

One of my favorite Golden Hour sessions was with my sister and her horse Royal for her graduation photos. The bond these two have is pretty special and the beautiful lighting really added to their sweet bond.  Our backyard is a great location because it is an open field that does not have a lot of trees to cover up the sun. This allows the light to just radiate over Elizabeth and Royal. Placing the two of them in front of the sun creates a hair light which then creates a glowing effect around them. I love the way her hair looks when the light hits it! So next time you and your friends want to get that awesome “selfie” light, try shooting it at golden hour! 🙂
